About RJ Martin

I started my life adventure in Cleveland, OH. I am number 4 out of 6 kids. My siblings would have been a lot more but my dad passed away from cancer when I was 10. At which point the we moved back to the family home town of Fostoria, OH. My mom, a very strong woman took on the job of raising us kids in this small town and encouraged all of us to get out into nature and use art as a means of self-expression. Nature as a form of inspiration would influence me for the rest of my life.
Fast forward. I moved to the Phoenix metro area in Arizona in 1973 to go to ASU. While there I dabbled in a variety of art forms but fell in love with both ceramics and my future wife, Trish, who was studying art at the university. After we were married, I continued to play in clay with a variety of different clay potters and learned more about this wonderful medium in ceramic classes. I did finish my BA degree in Business Management and an MA in Educational Leadership, but the business world was pretty dry compared to working creatively in ceramics. (Kids seem to have a way of steering your vision of life.) But I did continue promoting my artistic vision through a number of art venues, art fairs, galleries, private sales.
I love experimenting with different clay bodies, glazes, and incorporate both nature and positive messages within my work. The body of work I came up with is a collection of experimentation, the spirit of adventure and unique discoveries as a result of this. For example, my good vibration cups with positive and whimsical sayings, or my adventurous soul journeying with my copper glazing collection.
Can I make a dinner set for you? Yes, but each piece will be a unique one of a kind with a spirit of adventure all it's own. Otherwise go to Target and get a set from China made by machines and people who the same job for $1.00 a day.
